Yahoo offers a set of web APIs which are free to use, that will provide weather information for a given location. The location is determined by a \"Where On Earth ID\", or woeid. Fortunately, there are APIs to get that information as well. All of this is very easy to use with the <a title=\"Read online help for Invoke-Webrequest\" href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/p\/?linkid=293988\" target=\"_blank\">Invoke-Webrequest<\/a> cmdlet. The result is an XML document, which takes a little bit of work to parse out.<\/p>\n<p>My module has a command to get a woeid:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jdhitsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/092315_1158_WhatstheWea2.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you know that you can get weather information.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jdhitsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/092315_1158_WhatstheWea3.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Or more detailed information:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jdhitsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/092315_1158_WhatstheWea4.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can even pipe one command to the other.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jdhitsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/092315_1158_WhatstheWea5.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The cmdlets have complete help but instead of comment based help, I am using a MAML-based XML file. I created the file with an early version of SAPIEN's <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sapien.com\/software\/powershell_helpwriter\" target=\"_blank\">PowerShell Help Writer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Because I like to think the module contains some good examples of using Invoke-Webrequest and working with XML documents, I have <a title=\"visit the repository\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jdhitsolutions\/MyWeather\" target=\"_blank\">published the module<\/a> to Github. I hope you'll give it a try and let me know what you think.
